Augmented Intelligence

AI is all-pervading currently. There is always a buzz around the latest wave of technology, but the power of that technology to actually shift paradigms is less frequent. We saw it with the advent of the internet at the turn of the century, and with smartphones a decade later, and now AI has come of age we see that it is the technology’s accessibility that is paradigm changing not its core ability.

VR and self-driving cars have not (yet) lived-up to their hype, but AI is now available every time we touch a screen. It will change the way we live – it is already changing the way we search – and how we structure our businesses and our work is going to change dramatically as a result. This issue explores how we can do that and maintain our purpose as humans, and remain in control.

We have a wonderful opening piece from Prof Tom Davenport at Babson, and Eve Psalti at Microsoft shares some of the thinking going on in MS Azure. Dr Marcel Lukas from St Andrews University shows us how organizations are going to have to adapt to AI usage; and George Barnett suggests that we are better prepared than we might think.

Balancing the AI focus we have pieces on how your backstory influences your leadership from Trudi West; a new framework on reflection from Zoryna O’Donnell and Theresa Dzendrowskyj and a spotlight, appropriately, on how ATG Entertainment has been developing its leaders.
